Forest Reopened Update June 5, 2020

Update June 5, 2020: The Malcolm Knapp Research Forest has reopened for public use with reduced hours (open 8am-4pm daily). Please maintain social distancing when on the forest (including parking lot, trails and arboretum). Please dispose of any tissues in the garbage can, and do not visit the forest if you are feeling unwell. On busy days, the parking lot will be closed when it reaches maximum capacity. Please respect our neighbours and refrain from parking in the cul-de-sac as it is a no parking zone.

Although the trails are open to the public, the front office will remain closed. Trail maps are available outside in the parking lot, or on our website here. To respect our staff, please do not try and enter the office. If you have questions or concerns, please call us at 604-463-8148.

Dear friends and guests of the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest,

As part of UBC and the Province of BC’s ongoing effort to address the COVid-19 crisis, UBC has closed all of its campus academic facilities as of March 23rd to students, employees and the public, and halted all research activity except under written permission from the Vice President of Research and Innovation.

At the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest, we have had to make the difficult decision to close all Forest access to the general public in order to protect both the public and our employees from risk of transmission of this disease.  We are re-assessing that decision on a weekly basis, and will follow the guidance of UBC, as well as provincial and municipal authorities as to when local parks and public areas are allowed to re-open.

The Research Forest staff have been designated as an essential service, and will continue to provide security, fire protection and emergency response services during this crisis.

We look forward to welcoming you back here once this crisis has passed.
